This work presents a rubber duckling depicted in strict profile view, resting quietly on a wooden floor rather than floating in water. The composition intentionally isolates the figure against a plain, undistracted background, emphasizing presence, form, and stillness.
The image draws inspiration from my first visit to the Louvre Museum, where Egyptian artifacts left a lasting impression—particularly the carved and painted figures shown in profile. In this work, that ancient visual language is reinterpreted through a contemporary and playful subject. The duckling becomes a continuation of this historical tradition, echoing artistic conventions that date back thousands of years while shifting their meaning into the present.
Rather than being placed in its expected environment, the duck is grounded—resting, observing, existing in a moment of quiet suspension. This displacement introduces a subtle tension between expectation and reality, humor and reverence, simplicity and history.
The circular gold frame, partially painted as if dissolving or extending beyond its own limits, reinforces the idea that boundaries—whether historical, artistic, or conceptual—are not fixed. Instead, they can be softened, interrupted, or broken entirely.
In this way, the work becomes both a study of form and a meditation on continuity: how even the most humble subject can participate in a visual lineage that spans millennia.
